One of the tricky bits of making things is scaffolding or lubricating your way into doing something. When I was younger, and living in a warehouse flat, with a large room, I painted and drew. I had an easel set up with my current project ready to go, with paints and materials set out. I could see it from my bed. In such circumstances it’s easy to get on with things. In fact, it’s hard not to sometimes. I would lie in bed, looking at the artwork, thinking about what needed to be done. I would get up, and start working. Sometimes without breakfast. More often with a coffee, and in those days, a cigarette.

We can do similar things with exercise like running; set up the running gear by the bed, so its what you get up in to, and its makes it easier to get out there and exercise.

The situation I find myself in now is that I have nowhere. No desk with projects on. No easel. No weather tight workshop with half finished projects waiting for the next stage. If I was do make something, there is a lot of faffing about to get the tools and materials out and ready. An equal amount of faffing about to put then away. Not to mention the rain.

That’s all aggravated by the fact that our very small shed is FULL of stuff at the moment, and that makes the tools even harder to get to.

Even computer stuff is difficult, without a desk, a screen, and other bits and pieces.

All this should change with our new house. This has a large area underneath, and space for potentially two people to work at desks upstairs. I should have less excuses.

Once I demolish the old one. Which I should start blogging about as well at some point.
